The chilli peppers are used to make a peri-peri sauce, which is the basis of Nando's signature dish, flame-grilled peri-peri chicken.

Nando's is a renowned international restaurant chain with a rich history that traces back to South Africa in 1987. The origins of Nando's can be attributed to the friendship between Fernando Duarte and Robert Brozin, along with Robbie Brozin Sr., the father of their mutual friend Robbie Brozin. The journey began when the trio stumbled upon a modest Portuguese eatery called Chickenland in the Rosettenville suburb of Johannesburg.

The inspiration struck when they tasted the flavours of the Mozambican-Portuguese dish, Peri-Peri chicken, prepared by the restaurant's founder, Fernando Duarte. Captivated by the unique taste and spicy marinade, they were convinced that this distinctive chicken recipe had the potential to appeal to a broader audience.
